Cards

Gambit

Abandoned, in my time of need

Left to walk alone.

And they ponder my ghostly stride

Gone. Now it’s way too late for them to atone.

They pulled out their deck

And played the best of their deprecating cards.

Religious mandate offered them subtle escape

Barred. As heedless heros sent their ruthless regards.

I was granted one wish. A stoppage time hand

With foolish faux friendship exposed.

If you need me call me. No I need you to walk with me

Closed. Through the valley of death before I’m deposed.

Don’t tell me you know a damn thing of love

Tenderness to you stares back from the chrome.

Friendship’s not free in a perfect world

Yawn. You can think about that when I’m too far gone!
